At NHSS, we believe that quality healthcare should not be a privilege limited to urban centers. True to our mission, we recently extended our efforts to the hills of Achham, where access to specialized care remains a challenge.

On May 11, 2024, Dr. Basanta Maharjan represented NHSS as a Guest National Faculty at the 2nd Rural Orthopedic and Trauma Care Conference – 2024, held at Bayalpata Hospital. The conference brought together passionate healthcare professionals dedicated to improving trauma and orthopedic care in rural Nepal.

Dr. Maharjan delivered an insightful talk on the “Approach to Hand Injuries,” tailored specifically for rural contexts. His session provided practical, resource-sensitive strategies to manage hand trauma—one of the most common yet complex injuries faced in underserved areas.

Beyond the lecture halls, Dr. Maharjan led by example. He performed multiple hand surgeries during his time at Bayalpata, sharing techniques and fostering hands-on learning among local healthcare teams. Each procedure became a powerful moment of knowledge transfer, ensuring that critical skills remain long after the event ends.

This outreach not only strengthened clinical capacity but also reinforced NHSS’s deep commitment to bringing world-class care and education to the heart of rural Nepal. Through initiatives like this, we continue building a future where no one is denied care because of where they live.

Together, we move closer to a healthier, more inclusive Nepal.
